Questions about Shark S5003D Genius Hard Floor Cleaning System Pocket Steam Mop, Burgundy/Gray
Q:
How often do users have to replace the mop 'pad', and how much is it? I cannot find the right replacement pad here.
Answer: Depending on the amount of dirt on the floor, I may have to change it once. The first time I cleaned, I had to change it after 2 rooms because it pulled up so much dirt. I purchased 2 more replacement pads from Bed, Bath, and Beyond for $20. The following week, I only had to use one pad for my entire downstairs, which contains the kitchen, dining room, living room, foyer, long hallway, and half bath.
Answer: are the pads washable
Answer: Are the pads washable?
Answer: I found the replacement at sears online
Answer: Tell me about cleaning solution. Steam only? or another product.
Answer: It depends on how much traffic we have. I'll use one and then go back over it if I feel it needs it with a clean one. I bought my extras at The Home Depot.
Q:
this steam mop works for tiles floor?
Answer: I don't know. I don't have tile, but it works awesome. I would think it would work on tile.
Answer: Yes and just about any floor you can imagine , I'm very happy with mine
Answer: Sure does well I might add
Q:
Can you turn the pad over to use both sides?
Answer: Yes you can flip the pad over. All you do is release the pad and rotate the mop 180 deg and snap back in place and your good to go in using the other side. I’m assuming others on here that are saying No is because they don’t have the genius model, rather the original one sided pocket mop.
Answer: You can use both sides of the pad when it is on the frame, you cannot take it off the frame and flip it. The pads wash up nicely in the washing machine so you can get a lot of life out of a pad.
Answer: I am not sure what you are asking. If you mean can you take the pad off and physically turn it over for use the answer would be no.
Answer: No, the pad is one-sided. You get two. The one we used yesterday did the kitchen, hallway, and the bathroom. We just threw it in the wash and then dried it.
Answer: You CAN flip to the pad on top without removing it, in which case the power switch and canister will point to the floor (rather than up). Note that the push/pull handle is circular allowing either orientation. Also, if you look at the steam port it is equally distributed to the top and bottom pad. The bottom pad will show more steam simply because of water and gravity. If you are really OCD you can start with the canister down, then flip up for the second half so you will see when the canister is empty.
Answer: Yes, you can. It's a great mop!
Answer: Yes, you can. Don't listen to anyone who says you can't.
Answer: yes and it's washable too
Answer: Yes
Q:
How does it work on laminate flooring?
Answer: I use it on hardwood and porcelain tile floors and am very happy with it. It does not produce a lot of water, just steam, so I would think it would be okay on laminate floors, but I have no experience. The moisture is minimal and caught up by the mops. My only complaint is that it doesn't stand up on its own.
Answer: I would not use such a product on laminates, but if you have a high quality newer laminate floor you might try it out on an inconspicuous area. Most older laminates just won’t stand up to steam cleaning, tending to bubble up (separate) at the edges.
Answer: Works perfect on tile and linoleum so I would assume it work equally well on laminate.
Answer: I use it on my laminate flooring all the time. I just use the lower setting.
Answer: I bought it to use on my tile and it works great. I don’t use it on laminate because of the heat!
Answer: given the very fine mist, I should think quite well
Answer: Amazing
Q:
Is only distilled water recommeded?
Answer: I would Google it, but believe so, depending on your water. I am in Seattle so I Just use tap water.

Do you mop before you use it?
Answer: I’ve used this steam mop for roughly 6 mos, and, you do not mop first. This steam mop replaces that action.
Answer: No, I just vacuum up all the dust and dog hair first before I mop.
Answer: Oh no! It does all the cleaning you need! I do sweep up crumbs etc. this cleans deeply and thoroughly! I only use it on my tile floors!! It gets so hot that I won’t use it on laminate flooring!
Answer: No. I sweep before I use it.

Q:
Does this unit not need soap or detergent for the floor too?

Answer: I actually use a bottle of Lysol disinfectant to spray the floor as I Steam-Mop.
Answer: can you put a cleaning product in with the water in the water reservoir? I know everyone claims it is not needed, but I still wondered if it could be done. thanks!
Q:
can this work with 220 european voltage
Answer: Based on the Technical Specifications that I read in the Owners Guide, the Voltage shows 120V, 60-Hz. The Customer Support Number for Shark is 1.800.798.7398 in case you want to talk to a 'real person'
Answer: They sell shark in the UK.
Q:
Do you use the shark hard floor cleanser with this model? i don't see where it can attach.
Answer: I have tile floors.... I only use the hot steam I do not add any cleaning products to it when using.
Answer: HAVEN'T USED IT YET
Q:
Can I also use the attachment (plastic piece and pad rectangular and triangular) from the S3501?
Answer: I’m not I don’t know that as I have not used the S3501
Answer: I don't know. This was for a friend.
Q:
why do you have to dump water when not in use?
Answer: If there is an extended period of time between uses, the water could mold depending on your living area and the minerals in the water.
Q:
Will it remove dirt from vinyl flooring that is embedded into the indentations of the vinyl flooring?
Answer: Yes. The Shark steam mop will remove ground-in, stuck-on dirt on any surface. Vinyl is no exception. I have vinyl and hardwood flooring and it has been awesome for me. It may require a bit of elbow grease depending on the kind of dirt, but it will come off with repeated application. I hope this helps.
Answer: Probably not, if you want to remove that stuff would pre-treat the area a solution of 1 part dawn and one part vinegar and scrub it out. Then use the steam . Just spray that solution on floor and scrub, never put anything in the steamer except distilled or purified water. the steamer only steams it , there is no scrubbing action on the steamer.
Answer: Yes most of it. You probably just have to go over it a few times until the pads come out clean.
Answer: I would think so. You may have to go a little slower but it should do a good job. I don’t think you should try to do a quick job as if it is don regularly.
Answer: It might help loosen it but I’d suggest toilet bowl cleaner and a good scrub brush with some elbow grease
Q:
What is spray bottle solution with grip? i did not get any with mop. what solution should i buy?
Answer: I use a spray bottle of water and vinegar.
Q:

Answer: On the machine or sticker on box
Q:
I would like to know is it ( watts ) use for hong kong ? please reply asap, million thx!
Answer: Hello,
Q:
We have 100 year old real wood, refinished floors. Is this safe? I don’t want to ruin these floors.
Answer: I use mine on tile. Contact a floor expert & refinished. The steam dries quickly on the tile but I don’t know on the finished wood. I’d say it would be less moisture than a wet mop.
Answer: I use it on my hardwood. You can select the heat level and I don’t let it set on the same spot for too long. The heat dries it quickly. I think your floors are cleaner and dry more quickly than if you damp mop.
Answer: I wouldn’t use this for wood. The steam scalds the floor.
Q:
does it damage grout?
Answer: We don't have a tile floor, but it only emits steam so it shouldn't damage grout. There's no scrubbing motion on the floor; only the terry-towel like pad that collects the dirt.
Answer: Not so far
Answer: Not so far
Q:
Do you have to pump the handle like this one to get steam like the older version?
Answer: No, the new steam mop generates without pumping. It is a significant upgrade in all functions.
Answer: No . You just hover over a spot for extra steam
Answer: No . You just hover over a spot for extra steam
Answer: Does. It come with extra pads
Answer: No
Q:
Where to find parts
Answer: Yes
Q:
Is this mop cordless?
Answer: This mop is NOT cordless. Cord is regular length as a vacuum.
Answer: No it is not wireless. But the cord is very long. Great buy.
Answer: No but has a sufficiently long cord. This is an awesome machine.
Answer: No. It is not.
Answer: No
Q:
can this be use for hard wood floor?
Answer: Hello bassam s.,
Answer: Yes. The unit comes with a low , medium and high setting use the setting that corresponds to whatever type of flooring you’re cleaning. It will specify in the directions. Hope this helps!
Answer: Yes I have used it on hard wood floors and ceramic tiles with the same results - A+
Q:
Are you able to mix in distilled or cleaning vinegar into the water ? Will it mess up the mop at all?
Answer: Hello ashley turbyfill,
Answer: the instructions say only use distilled water, no additives. I broke my previous one by adding vinegar, it stops steaming.
Answer: Haven't tried that. But sounds like a good idea.
Q:
Can you leave a tiny bit of water in the mop when done with it? Also when moving rooms with the mop do you turn off or can you just unplug?
Answer: I try to use all the water, even if it means redoing an area, since sitting water can develop bacteria. My mop doesn't have an off/on switch, so I unplug it and replug in another area. It's a bit inconvenient, but no big deal.
Answer: We can assist you with your inquiry. You can leave some water in the unit in between uses with out having any issues. You should put the unit in stand-by mode before unplugging the unit.
Answer: Yes, but better to completely empty.
Q:
Is the voltage 220 v
Answer: Hello Abdullah A.,
Answer: No
Q:
Are extra genius mop heads sold separately? Not the pads, but the one steam blaster mop head that comes with it.
Answer: I don’t know the answer to that question
Q:
Can you use the steam head from a Shark S3601 in this Shark model?
Answer: I really do not like this mop. I had the $99 version for a few years and loved it. Why they changed to this is beyond me. It's heavy, bulky, and the mop head is floppy and hard to control. Putting the mop cloth on and off is really a pain in the back side. Consumer Reports rates it highly. I have several Shark products and like them. This mop is awful.
Answer: I would ask manufacturer
Q:
does it stand up right on it's own or do you have to lean it against the wall?
Answer: Hello Aliyah,
Answer: That is the only thing that I didn't like about the shark that you have to lean it on something so that it doesnt fall....but it does a Great job! Cleaning your floors...so I don't mind leaning it anywhere :--)
Answer: It does not stand upright on its own.
Q:
Noise what is noise level when steam is in full force on scale of 1 to 10 with 10 loudest
Answer: We would like to inform you that the system will make a noise as it is heating up and steaming. With this being said, we do not have a decibel level for this.
Answer: Not very much noise just a little steam and the level is very minimal I'd say 2 at most. This thing works very well much better than the earlier versions and I was happy with them.
Answer: There are three levels. Low med high. It basically hisses, no motor. At high it’s the loudest but it’s not too bad and you can hear background noises like a tv or telephone. Hope that helps.,
Answer: 3. I am noise sensitive and it does not bother me. It quiets to a 1 once you start actually mopping
Answer: Just a normal shhhhh sound. It’s not very loud but you can hear it. It’s just the sound of steam.
Answer: No noise, but they all have been used have missed some parts too. As of my experience, had bought one from Costco on 2017 all its parts were packed with sealed plastic, extra parts were included as well.
Answer: About a 2, I would say. It's just a steam hiss.
Answer: Maybe a 3
Answer: 2-3
Q:
Does Shark sell a disposable pad for this model?
Answer: Hello S. Lee,
Answer: I have never seen a disposable pad available for this model. The pads provided are easy to wash after each use and come nice and clean for the next use
Answer: Don't think so but to me the washable pad is better and much cheaper in the long run I bought 2 extra pads with mine. I love this steam mop.
Q:
what makes it a system?
Answer:
Answer:
Answer: Because it is a steam cleaning tool, that you can adjust based on how much steam you need,
Answer: My guess -- marketing!
Answer: Marketing guru said so
Q:
How well does this clean under cabinets just off the floor & in corners under those cabinets?
Answer: I have found that it has done a great job under the cupboards and gets the corners pretty well. Better than other floor cleaners.
Answer: The front doesn’t touch as it is curved so use the side or back, they do very well at cleaning corners and right up to the edge.
Q:
Does this remove the gloss/shine from hardwood floors? I had an old steam cleaner that seemed to make my floors dull looking.
Answer: I have only used it on laminate or tile. I don’t think I would use this on our wood floor as it might dull the finish.
Answer: This mop has 3 different levels of steam. The manufacturer states that the highest steam level may cause laminate wood floors to discolor or melt. This model is supposed to be safe for sealed, hardwood floors. Perhaps testing the mop (at a lower steam level) on an inconspicuous area of your wood floor would be best to ensure that there is no discoloration. I really love my steam mop, it works fabulously on tile and cleans the baseboards at the same time. The shot of steam is great.
Answer: So far I have not used the shark Genius on my hardwood floors, only on my tile floors, so I don’t know about hard wood.
Answer: My floors sparkle after I use this cleaner and feel squeaky clean after they dry.
Answer: Hello, thanks for your question, well it is very modern, I believe your floor will shine like new.
Answer: Im sure it would if you use it on high and leave it in one place too long. Mine was fine, I was careful.
Q:
can you use a floor cleaning solution?
Answer: I usually only put water in it. I have sprayed cleaning solution on my kitchen floor directly and then steamed it with the mop.
Answer: it is not necessary for this product. I believe just a bit of cleaning solution not a lot can work. This product was made for steam cleaning
Answer: Honestly, it calls for distilled water and I'm pretty amazed at how well it works with just water. I would not use a floor cleaning solution as I am not sure what it would do to the machine.
Q:
Does the cord or plug get hot when using it?
Answer: No. If it does, I would assume your power supply my be under voltage.
Answer: I haven’t noticed that at all
Answer: NO!
Q:
Does this work well on concrete floors?
Answer: I would think it does - i have terra cota floors with concrete grout - the first shark genius I bought only worked for 20 min though! Was not impressed, I bought another one and for the first few times only put the steam on medium before I upped it to high - this one works great and is wonderful on cleaning the grout! Hope I have answered your question!
Answer: This product works very well on any surface. Shoots out high pressured steam. I absolutely love it. Works super good on grout, and hardwood. You can use low setting on hardwood .
Answer: Yes, it works great on concrete floors.
Answer: It works great on tile. I assume it would work just as well on concrete.
Answer: If the concrete has a finish on it I believe that it would.
Answer: I've never tried it on concrete. It would probably depend on the finish. Is the concrete polished? Rough? Painted? This mop is not designed for concrete
Answer: Yes, provided the concrete tiles have a smooth surface. A rough surface will damage the fibre of the sweeper cover.
Answer: Unless the cement is very smooth it would shred the pad.
Q:
Is it safe to use on tile floors if your grout hasn’t been sealed?
Answer: . I use on my floor does an amazing job
Q:
I was not surprised to see ca prop 65 warning on the box. why would pads have it too? sold separately. what's in the mop anyway for this warning?
Answer: I think a lot of times it’s the parts within the power cord that don’t pass prop 65
Q:
I want to steam clean old floors, hard wood as well as porcelain tile, and then seal. Can I use this the first time before the floors are sealed?
Answer: Definitely don't. It will warp them and you'll likely notice some cupping if you do. Properly sealed though, steam cleaning is fine since the wood isn't soaking up the water. Also any stains in the unsealed wood will have been absorbed into the wood fibers making them difficult to remove by steaming anyway.
Answer: It could warp the wood not sealed. I would not risk it.
Product reviews of Shark S5003D Genius Hard Floor Cleaning System Pocket Steam Mop, Burgundy/Gray
Amazon Customer : I love this thing
Before I bought mine, I’d borrowed my mother in law’s, so I knew I’d like it. I have hardwood floors throughout my 1st floor, and with 3 kids, 2 cats, and a dog they were not getting cleaned near frequently enough. This thing makes cleaning my floors very easy, as opposed to dragging out a bucket, mop, etc. The pads get nice and dirty, and then I can just throw them in the wash. I don’t have to use cleaners or chemicals and still the floors get the cleanest they’ve ever been. It’s not unheard of for me to clean the floors 2-3 times per week. I don’t have a really big house, so the cord is actually just long enough for me to reach almost all of my 1st floor from a central location. I suppose an great upgrade would be a powerful battery operated model to do away with the cord entirely.
LRM : It Works, for Crying Out Loud!
So I finally got around to using the mop...I’m really not overly fastidious, so I’ve had it for maybe six weeks. I bought this within a few days of my other steam mop giving up the ghost. And since I did have something to compare it to and since I read so many of the reviews, I was a little hesitant to dive in on this mop - or any steam mop. They’re not inexpensive and it is a bit of an investment. I think this cost about the same as my previous steam mop cost.
Anyway, I decided to give it a try today. The instructions are reasonably clear; if you’ve ever used a steam mop, I’d imagine they’re all similar anyway.
I went large and bought the recommended distilled water for this mop. I don’t know if that’s why my other one failed, but thought it’s a reasonable cost to help ensure this one lasts a bit.
It’s super easy to fill using the little cup provided by the manufacturer. And in under thirty seconds, I had steam and was ready to mop.
The cloth mop is easy to attach and stayed in without any issues.
The cord is more than adequate for my purposes; my kitchen isn’t very large. It does get in the way a bit, but there is a little guide attached to the handle. I slipped the cord in there and that helped.
The biggest issue with this mop is that, as others have mentioned, it has no way to secure the whole thing in an upright position. I propped it up against something that held it in place. And it stayed out and didn’t slide down when propped up, so that’s a plus.
The mop head is on a cool swivel mechanism, which makes it easy to slide under and around immovable objects. But it also feels like I’m operating a drunken sailor. The mop head has a mind of its own. The instructions say to mop in a "forward and backward motion." This is easier said than done and takes a little getting used to. If there was a locking mechanism of some sort, I’d go all the way with five stars. That’s all that holds me back.
I really like the option of low-medium-high settings. As I have a laminate floor in the kitchen, I set it at low. I was a bit doubtful this would be enough. But to my surprise and delight, it’s more than adequate. It honesty took me longer to the ready the kitchen to mop than it did to actually mop. The steam dries incredibly fast - but, it is summer so it's warm. It might be different when the weather cools.
I gave the cloth mop head a quick clean in the sink directly after mopping. In the past, I found this helped to keep them from staining so badly. The mop heads do get really dirty, you know. So I was happy this was easy enough to wash in the sink with a little Dawn dish soap. I’ll wash it with towels later, but for now it’s clean-ish and drying in the laundry area.
All-in-all, I’m very happy with this purchase and I’d recommend it to anyone who just wants to mop floors and get on with life.
ei : Absolutely Incredible Cleaning Power!
I found this mop to be a pain in the butt. Storage is annoying, the head and bidy are stored separately, with no stand or bag provided for the head. You are instructed to hang up the body, with absolutely no suggestion as to storage for the head. The cord, while being of sufficient length, is made up of a very inflexible material that has been stored in the box in a manner that has it kinked so that, when unwound, has it going every which way. Who knows when it will relax. In the meantime expect it to be in your way no matter how you turn.
Filling up the water tank is a bit clumsy, if you want to see how much you’re putting in. Forget it if you have a bad back.
I absolutely hated this mop...until...I mopped my kitchen floor with it! I have NEVER had a steam mop clean my kitchen floor so well. After only ONE PASS there was barely a hint of dirt on the paper towel when I gave it the white glove (towel:) test. I can’t say enough about the cleaning ability of this mop. Add to that how easy it is to get the cleaning pads on and off, this mop is amazing. I’ll put up with the annoyances because I have never had a mop of any kind clean like this.
Fantastic!
Madeline : This is the steamer you’ve been looking for
I should have bought this years ago. We used a bona for all of our cleaning on laminate. I decided to spend the money and I don’t regret it one bit. This is easy to use and I love the touch less pad on/off feature. The only complaint I have is the cord is WAY too short! I have to plug it in four different places to clean my main floor. In the long run, this will save me money because I don’t have to replace bona fluid or wet pads. Great investment.
Carolyn : Awesome mop
At first I was annoyed with the amazon warehouse deal because I literally got just the mop jammed into an unmarked box with no protection, no pads, and no manual. Luckily, the mop itself is FANTASTIC! I don't know how I've gone 13 years as an adult without one of these. Mopping is easily my least favorite job so I tend to let my floors get embarrassing before I finally break out the sloppy bucket and dirty mop. With a normal mop you have to scrub so hard it kills my back! I also hate using chemicals due to a fragrance allergy but feel like natural cleaners never work well enough. I love that this mop just uses steam and actually does an amazing job, is SUPER easy to push around, and the pads being washable is another perk. My first time using it I did a first pass over my kitchen linoleum and laminate wood. I noticed streaking left behind so i sprayed my floors with vinegar water and did another pass with a clean pad. The pad was surprisingly dirty after the 2nd pass but my floors were the cleanest I've ever seen them and i never had streaking issues again (I assume it was leftover chemical residue).
Wes Revelle : I got a 2nd one for my parents the day i got it.
Yes this is a game changer i used a wet vacuum for years, but i got a black light when i got a dog to help see the dirt in my house. There was a lot of problems on my tile floor and this cleaned it so fast and easy. The start up time is less than 30 seconds and you can reuse everything. This has made it easy to keep my floor clean enough to eat off of. I use one mob pad a room so i ended up getting more so i could clean more than 2 rooms a day. This uses little to no space, this replace 2 cleaning tools in my house.
Kristie Colantropo smith : Just not very good
I read so many reviews about this mall and checked out quite a few and ended up with this and I have not been very happy with it my old one cleaned better and it was the cheapest version I think you could get at the time and it's probably easily 10 years old and I probably only paid half the amount of money for it than this 1 and I was much happier with it. I don't like the way the pad head is designed it's just more difficult for me to mob with as well as it taking much longer to get stuff up having to go over the same spots over and over and over
Rosemary Joseph : So easy, efficiently cleans!
So, I waited a while to write this review. I wanted to give it a lot of use before I left my opinion.
I LOVE it! It is worth every cent spent and them some! I needed something, quick, efficient and easy to use. The mop and bucket was just not working for my family of 6! I have had it roughly two months. I use it multiple times a week.
To dispute some negative comments, the cord is like long enough and the water chamber holds enough water to mop an efficient amount of flooring! My house is 3,000 SF and I unplug and re-plug about 3-4 times to do the whole house. I fill the water chamber about that much. To me, it beats filling up and lugging around a mop bucket to each room. It cleans hard wood awesome. The best thing about it my 7, 9, 12 and 14 year old can operate it!
The only thing that I have found it does not clean well is my white vinyl bathroom floor. Which gets filthy quick! So, for that I put down my favorite cleaner, power spray then mop and it gets it up every time!
In conclusion, BUY THIS if you like clean floors and you don’t want to spend a lot of time doing it!
penalope18 : Hated it. Decided to return.
**updated.- Tried it again and I've decided to try and return it. I just can’t! ** So I’ve been on the search for a good steam mop. I’ve bought a few from Walmart and returned because the size and because I was in search of a cordless steam mop (there are none that I found in my budget) so I decided to go on amazon and after reading reviews I settled on this one. I was so excited and decided to clean my floors ASAP. I have a small hard floor area in my home, just my kitchen. It was EASY to assemble and start using. I loved how small it was. I also really liked the no touch mop pad. When I went to use it, it’s like it doesn’t give hardly any steam at all. I would have to go over a dirty spot like 3-5 times to get it cleaned and that’s one HIGH!! On one TINY spot of mud, I used the direct steam and it STILL didn’t clean it. I’m super disappointed in the product so far. The Powerfresh one I tried, I only had to go over things once and it was CLEAN. Wish I could return this one and just go get the previous one I had that was LESS EXPENSIVE.
Great investment.
julesverne81 : Good product with a couple of minor gripes
This mop cleans well and uses very little water. I didn't see the miracles that others have in cleaning grout and removing old paint from tile, but it is effective for everyday use.
I recently had my floors professionally cleaned and resealed. When asked what I used to clean the floors, I told him a steam mop. "The best!" he replied. It made me feel pretty confident in my purchase.
For comparison, I used hot water and a mop to clean the floors. Holy crap! I didn't realize how much more water that required!
As good as this mop is, I do have a couple of things I don't really like: 1) The cord length! Unlike your vacuum, you'll need to find a new plug for every room, and sometimes within the same room. I had an old extension cord lying around, so it's become a permanent part of the steam mop. 2) There's no on/off button. Why? No idea. Every time that you plug/unplug the steam mop, you'll see a flash of electricity from the outlet. Adding an on/off button seems like a super simple fix.
John D. Pack : Buy the Bissell instead
Hate this product. I should have just got another Bissell. Said it all in my video. Doesn’t stand upright. Hard to fill with water. Doesn’t clean as well as the Bissell and cleaning pad is hard to put on. Yes it has a long cord but that doesn’t make up for the fact that it is poorly designed.
LivingByHisGrace : Works well but one downfall is if you leave it ...
Works well but one downfall is if you leave it standing on the hardwood floor when you are done, it will leaka little and make stains on it so be sure to put it away.
Luther Hutto : Steams away dirt
My husband purchased the steam mop at my request. I have used the product now 4 times, the first time I was not really feeling the use of it, wasn't sure about how to use the steam sanitizer portion, but did get the hang of it. I have a dog who is a bit drooly sometimes, well a lot. So I tried using the steam mop on the first and 2nd setting but to do a really good job it does take the high setting, which works great actually and I of course have to refill the tank a few times as our house is about 2200 sq. ft. I have never used the Shark products before I have always been a Bissell fan. That being said here are the cons of this machine, the cord, while it is plenty long, it being a flat cord is really a pain, it's too light weight and almost unmanageable moving about a large area with furnishings, why on earth you didn't put on a round cord is beyond me!! The one other thing I would like to comment about is that it is a bit of a workout to push around and really scrub the dirtier spots on the floor, our house has all laminate flooring that has no sheen or wax on it and this makes it much heavier to push around, we do have one floor that is a waxy surface vinyl and it glides across easily. I really hope that someone will read this review and if they should have any more questions please feel free to ask them. Overall this is a sound well, built product that does a great job. Thanks for Reading.
Emily Legault : Steam function petered out/is malfunctioning after 1.5 yrs
Unfortunately, though I loved this mop while it was working, the steaming started malfunctioning about about 1.5 yrs from my purchase date, past the 1-yr warranty. Now, the mop takes much longer to heat up the steam during use (it is constantly reheating while you're using it), and also very little steam comes out during use. While mopping, no moisture can be seen on the floor, demonstrating that the steam is functioning properly (when I first got it, this was not the case). The steam burst function will only burst for 1-2 seconds and then completely looses all steam. When I first got it, WAY more steam came out during normal use. It's non-effective now as a mop.
konnie : Absolutely amazing
Right out of the box extremely easy to assemble and get up and running. I tried it in my dining room hard wood and was floored (pun intended) so I decided to try it on my ceramic tile in the basement. Holy wow! It took paint off the floor that had been sitting for over a year from the old owners! I thought I’d have to get paint thinner since soap and water did nothing. Bona scrubbing did nothing. I hit a spot that I hadn’t touched before and it came right up! I’ll try adding the video if it’ll let me. GET ONE NOW! You WONT be disappointed.
Nic : Good for light cleaning, underwhelming for deep cleaning.
This is a solid steam mop, but be aware it is NOT for deep cleaning. We just built a house, and there was quite a bit of “construction grime” on our tile. I ran the Genius Steam Mop, and it did a fine job picking up the top layer of dirt. However, when it came to the bigger, more stuck on dirt spots; I was pretty underwhelmed with the performance of the genius. I had to put some SERIOUS elbow grease behind the mop, and even after using the “extra steam” feature by flipping it over (which made pretty much no difference in my opinion), there are still several spots that I couldn’t get up. I had to bust out my McCullough 1275 in order to get the bigger spots. This is not a perfect solution to dirty floors. However, if you are able to use something like a McCullough (or similar) for an initial “deep clean” to get all the big, hard to get spots; the Genius is a fantastic maintenance tool! It’s so much easier to assemble, heat, and clean with when I just want to do a light mopping or disinfecting run, as opposed to using the McCullough as a daily drive. In summary, this is a good product if you need a daily driver for light to medium cleaning. However, you will be disappointed if you’re trying to clean particularly tough dirt.
Sakura Sandra : oh yes buy this
Ok so I was pretty torn about what to buy for this new house because I have never had wood floors before and the price range and list of options is pretty huge. You can go all the way down to the cheapest wetjet knockoff for like $15? Or all the way up to a $300 all-in-one Bissell. So I really took the time to read a ton of reviews and research. The Bissell has potential to be better but with a fair amount of complaints too and quite a bit higher price point so I decided to go with this Shark instead. Now when I was younger I remember my mom having some piece-of-you-know-what Shark vacuum so my memories of the brand weren't glowing lol. But technology has come a long way and you can't really judge a company based on your memories of a really old product. And besides that was a vacuum and this is a steamer to boot! So I put those negative thoughts away and decided to try this shark steamer and I'm so happy I did! I have been cleaning like 1000 sq. ft. of sealed wood floors for a few weeks and the difference is night and day. I bought some Bono wood floor cleaner too because all my friends in my mommy group said it was the best, but I haven't even used it yet because the Shark with just water has done such a good job! I also love that the Shark doesn't force you to buy microtransactions in the form of brand-specific cleaners like someone else *cough* it's just water! And I was skeptical that "just water" could even do such a good job but since it's hot steam it's really something else. The floors are starting to look so shiny and they were so dirty a few weeks ago from years without a deep cleaning (I just moved in here so don't look at me lol!) and also current snow drips and such getting tracked in. Now they're looking shiny and almost new. I'm thinking another few full steams in the coming weeks and they probably will look NEW, but I am already loving the shine from the previously dull wood. I keep catching myself admiring it. And it feels so nice to walk barefoot or even in my socks, sliding around on CLEAN floors. And it's pretty easy to use. It takes a LITTLE elbow grease on a really dirty wood floor, but it just slides over the tiles and laminate in the kitchen and bathroom. I would recommend this to anyone with hard floors honestly. It's awesome. Way more effective than a Swiffer Wetjet and way cheaper with better reviews than the all-in-one Bissell.
Ebrit003 : The best cleaning product I have bought in years.
I love this thing. I am a steam-mopping-addict. Get it, use it, you will not regret it.
I added a few drops of lavender oil to the tank when I first bought it, and the scent continues on to this very day with every use.
I bought a few extra pads and always have the mop at the ready. There is no kid/dog mud challenge that I will not accept with this Shark steam mop by my side.
I have a Shark robot vac, upright vac, and steam mop, and to date they are the best cleaning devices I have ever owned.
Jennifer Roberts : There is hope for that dirty, dirty floor!
I don't normally review products. Sure, I completely rely on reviews. But I need to really love it or really hate to leave a review. If this Shark Steamer only worked for one use it would still be worth every penny.
I have big, gross, drooling, dirty dogs. I had given up on having a completely clean tile floor. Yes, I'd mop it, vacuum it and sweep it. But it was never REALLY completely clean. It was good enough. Just one use of the Shark Steamer, and my hopes of a clean house have been revived! Don't get me wrong, it was a work out, and I'm sweating. But the same as I'd do mopping with an infinitely improved result.
Honestly, I almost want to buy two just out of appreciation.
Hot tip: distilled water REALLY is all you need for tile. I was skeptical myself. But it does the trick.
SangriaSweetie : Fantastic steam mop but buy different pads
I love this steam mop, cord length is great and I love how you can adjust the amount of steam that is used when you mop. I have travertine flooring and use a medium setting for the steam and it cleans my floors very well. However, I hate the mopheads that came with this mop! They are a bit challenging and time-consuming to put them on, especially given that I don’t want to ruin my manicure. However I’ve gotten around this by buying alternative mopheads on Amazon that work very well and are super easy to put on. Either way, I absolutely love this mop!
Max Million : My house is now cleaner, I’m sure
I did research on these steam mops before settling on this one and I’m glad I did. I used the grout attachment on my grout by my front door, which was very dirty, and it cleaned so well, I was impressed. But I was really impressed when I used a small round attachment on the brown, hard-to-get-out spots on my stovetop, which is a textured stainless steel. I hadn’t been able to get it off with anything! It’s not totally gone, but it is so much better. I also love the mop pads for my floors, which I have used on my hardwoods, which are typically filthy with two dogs. The mop pads washed up great, too. My only complaint is that my cleaning area is large and the cord isn’t long enough. I have to use an extension cord because outlets aren’t always nearby.
Craig Haynes : Sturdy handle, fair steam control, easy to prep for use.
The quest for a solid, effective steam mop has been a challenge...till now. I fully endorse steam cleaning. I have a canister Vapamore, I have the SKG stick mop, I have HAD the Bissell (terrible). This SHARK, is promising. I will update. I like very much, that I am able to clean the quarter-round moulding (molding) along the sides of the flooring because the mop heads have a wide swath and padding. For me, the issues have been: Solid handle construction--this Genius is better than the previous models I've used. Controlled steam output--this Genius is better, providing three levels of steam and effectively outputting a dry steam that isn't too much moisture (at medium) for tile or laminate--which is what they recommend and which also drys fast. No one likes corded appliances these days, even though battery life is an issue--the cord on this Genius is fine, but I have a 2000 sq ft home with 80% tile--cordless would be heaven. Instead, I will probably use a long extension. The water reservoir is fine, but still not enough. Set-up is very fast and easy, particularly if you've used steam mops before. This Genius could be a keeper. We'll see.
Shopper22 : ABSOLUTELY LOVE IT !!!!!!
This is the best mop ever! I will never wash floors with a different kind of mop again. This mop is a life changer - seriously! I love the deep clean, the durability, the functionality and how easy to apply and wash the mop heads. I am not exhausted or sweating after mopping because the mop does it for me. Literally the ONLY downside - is the water reservoir is small and I have to refill it many times to do my whole house - but it is so worth the time & effort! Buy it - you will not be disappointed!

R Rated : Not the miracle claimed?
I’m an atypical user but also love being an independent home owner at 77 years old. I have all wood floors in my 3/2 with tile in the laundry and bathrooms. The Shark steam cleaner is not easy to push around and being a weight trainer that’s saying something. It failed to impress me on its cleaning power but I’ll keep at it to keep Covid at bay. It was just ok. I expected much better but, to be fair, it did dirty the floor pad. But the same can be said for mops and hot soapy water. I bought this unit thinking it would ease my daily cleaning effort from a physical point of view especially. It did not.
amh : Only worked for 20 Minutes!!!!
Was excited to receive this item, the direct steam was great for grout cleaning BUT after using it for 20 min, the steam stopped and the only thing happening was water drizzling from the steam nozzle and it was cold! Not happy
Shawayy : Buyer beware
Upon opening up my package merchandise was in a white box. Taking out the vaccum cleaner I could tell it was used. Scratches everywhere like someone has had it. Dirt in the crevices and leftover water in the water tank. Absolutely disgusted plus I could have spent the extra 20 bucks to get it from shark because I'm sure that wouldn't have happened if I did.
Joseph : Out of about 5 steamers I've owned, this is by far the best!
As a little background, I've owned three other name brand steamers. Up until now I liked Haan the best. I had a few of their models and thought they were very nice. I have a lot of hardwood and three young children, so I have a lot of messes.
This Steamer is by far, hands down, the best that I've owned. The mop head is really what makes this thing different than all others I've owned. It is very versatile and scrubs better than any mop head I've used. Although I'm not sure the manufacturer recommends it... I've actually cleaned walls, floorboards, and glass doors. The thing is amazing. The mop head puts out a good amount of steam and is roughly 50%- 75% bigger than the old Haan mop head steamers I used. I also don't think it is any heavier.
The only complaint I have is that the tank is not removable, but that is really just a preference I have and has little to do with function. It comes with a pouring cup but I'm sure I'll lose that and have to resort to just a cup. If you are in the market for a steamer, this is the one you want.
Bernadette 259 : A Must Have!
Where was this when my children were little? Everyone should own one of these even if you do NOT have small child or pets! I clean my kitchen and bathroom floors as well as any accidents my 4 indoor rabbits might have. East to you and maintain...nothing extra to purchase, just add water, plug it in, it heats up in seconds and you are ready to go!
Christine M : Works great!
Love this thing!! My floors look and feel so much better/cleaner after using this Shark!!! I use it on my hardwood floors but also in my kitchen and bathroom and it works wonderfully in all the diff areas. So happy I decided to buy it!
LuvBritLit : Looks like a piece of junk, however...
It works way better than the Shark that it's replacing. The 3 settings and the extra steam feature make this a cleaning machine! However, the resevoir is too small-- I need to stop and add water before I'm done mopping all of my tile. And it's a bit of work to assemble and disassemble each time it's used. The mop heads are easy to get on and off, but why should I have to take the bottom of the mop off and hang the main part of the mop? Fortunately, I had hooks already set up in my basement or I might have sent it back. It really looks like a cheap piece of crap, especially compared to the old Shark I had, but it works better!
CHAR : This Works!
As a skeptic I was amazed how great this product cleaned. I bought extra pads from the start. This will clean up dirt that the dogs and people bring in that you don't really see. You will be amazed at how easy it is to use and how fabulous it cleans. No mess. Floors are dry. Steam is so natural and a beneficial way to clean. The pads soaked everything up and held it. It did not spread the dirty film all over the floors. It took it away. Love this little light weight machine. It's my work horse. Thank you.

Cajungirl : You will need them because as soon as you see how dirty the pads get from use
As a women obsessed with clean, this is the tool to buy. I have purchased a few of these now for family members. This shark really cleans. Order extra pads when you buy it. You will need them because as soon as you see how dirty the pads get from use, you will want to change them frequently when you mop the floors.
Marissa : Broken after 8 uses
Loved this the first few times I've used. Bought in November, used once a month and it's July and doesn't work. Very disappointed

Joyce F : An elderly person could never handle this thing. .....Added a comment later
It cleans very well. My kitchen floor was squeaky clean. But it is sooo awkward to use. If you need to pause you need to find an edge with a corner to prop it up or the handle falls to the floor. To change the pad, you have to press a button on the handle. (takes strong fingers to press it down), and the mop heads fall open on the pad which you have positioned under it. ( A two-person job if you ask me.) Then you have to prop the handle up to keep it from falling, and watch that the mop heads don't accidently lock closed, and bend way over to tuck them into the pockets on the pad. The water container doesn't hold very much, have to change for every room. When finished, you have to hoist the whole thing over the sink to empty the remaining water. I bought this because of arthritis in my fingers, and the O'Cedar spin mop bucket was a bit difficult to carry around. The Shark products generally have a good reputation, but I'll have to look around for something easier to use. I need to change this review slightly. After a bit of experimenting, I managed to insert the pads hands-free.

Heather L : It cleans very well But...
This stream mop does clean very well but there are some design flaws. This is called Genius. But it doesn't quite live up to that title. So I will start with the positive.
*It does clean very well, I can definitely see a difference after I've mopped. Really gets a nice hot stream
*It heats up very quickly. I love that!
*It has an easy function button from low steam to high.
*I think it's relatively easy to push around and manoever and I have arthritis in my shoulder.
*I think the cord is long enough to reach around all my floor area.
*The water reservoir holds plenty of water that you don't have to refill all the time. Make sure to use distilled water.
*The cup they give you works well to pour the distilled water into the reservoir.
*The handle is thick and comfortable to hold and I have arthritis in my hands.
*I like the function to get extra steam. You have to flip the mop head back. (see my negative on this)
*The pad release button works great, very quick and easy to release the pad to take off and wash. (see my negative on this)
* The pad is thick and grabs dirt very well.
* I like that a spare mop pad comes with the unit. I did buy a couple of extra pads so I will always have a clean one on hand.
So the things I do not like and things that are slightly annoying to me.
* The unit does NOT stand up on its own. You have to lean it up against a wall. Ridiculous! Oh you could try and hang it on the wall but guess what? the round handle is facing in a position so that the unit does not lay flat against the wall. You basically can not hang it. I have to prop mine up in a corner in such a way that it won't slide down or topple over.
* I find it difficult to view the water level in the reservoir. The plastic is a tinted color and I just can't see the water very well.
* The opening to fill the water resevoir is very small and you need a steady hand to pour water into it with the cup that is provided with the mop. It would be better if the reservoir is a detachable container that you can pop in and out to fill.
* Changing the mop pad - I still have to bend down to fix the pad. There's four separate "feet" that are meant to slip in the pockets on the pad. The video demonstrates that there is no need to bend down. However in practice there is always that one "foot" that won't slip into the pocket properly And you may have try it a couple of times but I end up bending down to fix that one pocket.
*There is NO on and off switch. You plug it in and it lights up. I find that kind of strange.
*The function to get the extra steam boost you have to flip the head around which is quick and easy BUT you can't really push the mop around with the mop head in that position. It's too hard to push and so you have to do the steam boost and then revert mop head back to normal position to be able to push.
Overall this mop is great for getting your floor clean and that's what we want but there are some funky design flaws.

Tricia G : Great Steamer Mop!
This is my first steam mop and I really like the degree of heat that is uses to clean my wood and tile floors. My floors do look better since I used the mop to clean them and I have only used it once so far. I used it on Friday morning and my floors still feel really clean after 2 days. A matter of fact I always use a house slippers (of late), but since I used this steam mop I have been strutting around here barefooted, lol, imagine that (I usually tip toe around while I'm looking for my house slippers)? I have tree boys under 12, and when they were creeping and were toddlers (roughly 10 years ago) I used a popular brand steamer that would leave my entire house wet for 3/4s of a day - Not so with this steamer mop!!! I now live in a house that has wood, tile, and carpeted floors and this is the first since the boys were babies that my house has experienced this degree of clean, even though up to last week, I used to mop frequently with a squeeze dry sponge mop (which I never trusted). As a teacher turned stay at home Mom and wife, I always felt the need to keep my house clean but had so much trouble maintaining it. By that I mean I would constantly spray the floors - especially in the kitchen where the fridge and other appliances met the cabinets and woodwork - with bleach etc, leave them for a while, then scrub them while breathing that intoxicating, poisonous scent. Now with this steamer all I do is flip the steamer mop head over, tilt the handle backward and voila, I have an extra burst of steam hitting the ground in those places, then I simply wipe it away. How cool is that? Go ahead and buy it you will not regret it! I wish I had sooner. I bought a dyson animal 2 that I absolutely love and I use that on my bare floors before I used my steamer mop but all you have to do is sweep your floors before you use the steamer mop. I gave it four stars because I think the water tank could be a little bit fatter to hold more water. After every two rooms I had to refill the water tank. It also prefers distilled water and I'd rather feed it with pipe water. The mat doesn't turn back to off white when you wash it which is not good (but the edges of the mat are a true white, which is good).
Ashley Fears : Good but not great
I've owned a steamer before but its been a few years. Was really excited for this because of the cloth drop features (no dirty hands) and the steam settings. My kitchen floor had everything from sticky gunk (maybe syrup?), melted wax (Halloween project gone wrong) to paint as well as nasty grout. While the steamer did clean the tiles it wasn't as great at the heavy lifting like getting the wax, paint, and gunk off, nor did it clean the grout well. I attribute the problem to the flip tray design for the floor pad which creates a lot of kind of bend plastic that I found prevented me from being able to press real hard into the tile which I did with my previous steam mop for the tougher stuff. Because of this it was unable to get the wax (I was able to scrape it off with my nail after so dissapointed the mop couldn't get it up) or paint up. In addition, there were several spots of gunk it couldn't get no matter how hard I pressed or how long I let the steam sit on it. It also had problems getting up stuff from the edges of the tile that ran by the wall (I think because the steam vents couldn't get close enough to that part of the tile because the wall stops it). So...really bummed because I was so excited for this, but I'm going to have to look for something different. This isn't to say that it didn't clean. it definitely did. My pad came away really dirty, but I really wanted it for those tough things that I have to get down on the ground to hand scrub.
Corey Perry : Use water from water softener system or distilled water, to make sure the steam mop has a long life.
I just had shoulder surgery and carpal tunnel surgery, this is the perfect steam mop. It has made my life so much easier. There’s no fighting with the pads to put them on or take them off. Plus I don’t have to touch the dirty ones afterwards.
LivingByHisGrace : Works well but one downfall is if you leave it ...
Works well but one downfall is if you leave it standing on the hardwood floor when you are done, it will leaka little and make stains on it so be sure to put it away.
JAS : OMG! This is the best steam mop ever!!!
Throw out your mops and swifters! This handy, light steam mop does it all...I love how it REALLY deep cleans my floors and with such ease. I have back issues because of my scoliosis and had been unable to regularly mop my floors as often as I wanted. Now, it's super easy and quick. I add a little bit of organic oil (like lavendar and lemongrass or even peppermint ) to the microfiber cloth pads and my house smells heavenly. BTW, never add these oils to the water container as they may clog up the system and burn it out. This steam mop is definitely worth the money to purchase.
Irene : Cleaning ability is no better than traditional mopping
I purchased this product to replace my old-fashioned mop-and-bucket mopping system, thinking this "new-tech" item would make the process easier and deliver deeper cleaning ability. Well, yes and no. In terms of saving time/energy, it does allow you to get rid of the hassles of constant changing of water and, due to it's larger pad, one stroke covers more area for sure. On the other hand, this mop is heavy and much harder to push and pull compared with the Swiffer mop I currently use for mopping. Plus I now don't need to carry a bucket with me but need to constantly hold the long cord so that it doesn't get in my way, mmm......; eventually you spend less efforts here but more efforts there. As far as the cleaning ability goes, I see no difference between this one and the Swiffer mod; both can clean visible pieces of dirt but leave fine, tiny particles on our vinyl flooring. Guess I'm sill on the journey of looking for a "perfect" mop......
